On the last day of SXSW2007, Texas I was hanging out with the guys from Viddler and we decided to do an SXSW video wrap up.
A lot of new laptops seem to have webcams built in, including all new MacBooks. Viddler offers a great feature - you can use your webcam to record video directly to the web.
This more or less means that your laptop can become a portable video camera.
Once you hit stop, there is no delay in seeing your video on the site. It’s just there and you can start sharing it with your friends.
I think there are some fantastic implications for this:
- recording meeting notes
- time delayed video conferencing
- sending someone a quick video message
- collaborative projects (with schools?) via the web…
Oh, and it’s a free service.

Stef: Definitely some good ideas on usage. Obviously Viddler has been toying with many ideas lately using our “record with webcam” feature.
In fact the engineers are hard at work to put together some of these ideas, even some that you’ve mentioned. I’ve been hacking away at it ever since I started using the service, and I started to find all kinds of ways this could be useful — I’m glad you’ve thought of some of the same ways.
Thanks for using Viddler…. and for letting me see that kick ass camera you have.
