At last week’s Bank Holiday we had a day out at Compton Verney, which was lovely. It was my first time there, despite having had some very tempting events in the diary over the past year or so, and I was impressed.
It’s a combination of country house, Capability Brown landscaped grounds, a river, a bridge, forests, farmland, but the spark of genius that makes the place wonderful was to convert and modernise the house with a very high standard of architecture into a gallery space, arts centre, cafe, shop and exhibitions space.
Stan’s Cafe were showing their Big Black Maze, there was an exhibition of photography, sculpture and video art on the subject of shadows, and outside in the glorious sunshine were an array of children’s activities.
Oh and their website is a joy of accessible and aesthetic design. A great job all round and I’m sure we’ll be going back to take part in their family activities programme.
I’d highly recommend a visit.
