What a nice way to start the week - Created in Birmingham has picked up some national interest and gone and hit the big-time with a big ‘ol compliment from the Guardian in the shape of a MEGA award nomination for Best Independent Blog.
Although if you read Pete’s post about it it’s a ‘you’ve kinda won but it was all a bit apples and oranges, so you’re all winners here’ situation, so to simplify I guess you’d call it a ‘joint win’ along with We Make Money Not Art and From the Front Line.
It’s quite timely in two ways. A couple of weeks ago Pete and I sat down for a chat about how Created in Birmingham had been going over the year and what the plan would be going ahead. Getting past those early teething months the blog really came into its own over the summer and autumn, and I think it’s safe to say it’s become regular reading for creative types in the city and visitors from outside too. It’s great to see that it’s getting some wider recognition too. So to celebrate we thought we’d throw something of a 1st birthday party - we’d already got the venue booked - and then this came along which gives us an even better excuse for a good time.
Put Thursday the 21st of February in your diary now for the Created in Birmingham birthday party - more details to come.
The second is that only two weeks ago at the Birmingham Bloggers Meetup we were discussing the fact that Birmingham hadn’t appeared on the radar in an article about - yep - blogging in Birmingham. So this is a turn up for the books indeed!
I’ll leave it to Pete to fill you in on all the details, but suffice to say I’m really happy that one of those ‘ideas in the pub’ actually came to something - heres’ to more of that!
It’s ‘well done’ to Pete, but on a wider scale you could just as well say ‘well done Birmingham’ - after all, if we weren’t all putting in the effort to make interesting things happen then the blog just wouldn’t work.
So if you were even wondering about whether or not you should start a blog, or begin publishing your photos, get into podcasting or have a go at uploading some video, there’s no time like the present…

You are absolutely spot on Stef about starting the blog.
I met someone at the ALL (Association for Language Learning) at the conference at the LSE in London on Saturday. I introduced myself to the said person, who is very well-known in language circles, and she said- Jan Lewandowski, you’re famous!
No more blagging; must keep blogging.
Excellent news Stef, this is very inspiring for everyone starting out and certainly is a turn out for the books after our discussion at the Birmingham Bloggers Meetup. Congrats!
