If you’re like me you’ve got a Flickr stream, a Facebook account, you’re posting blog posts on one or more blogs, saving your favourites on Delicious, updating your status on Twitter and just generally publishing all manner of randomness about your life on the web.
Now put yourself in the position of someone who’s a really big fan of your work (right…) and just _has_ to find out everything you’re up to but hasn’t got the patience to grab all of those feeds and keep up to date with them (sure…).
Here’s the solution. You make yourself a Life Feed.
A single RSS feed that combines all of those disparate bits and bobs of content that you’re busy making and puts them all in one place for easy consumption.
But how?
Enter Yahoo Pipes
Pipes is a scary-sounding but very easy system that lets you mix up, filter, alter and mash together various sources of information to make new and interesting things with it.
So, if I want to pull together all of my feeds in one place, Yahoo Pipes will let me do it. Here’s how:
- Make a list of all of your RSS feeds.
- Sign up to Yahoo Pipes
- Have a look at my Pipe
- Click the ‘clone‘ button to make your own pipe based on mine
- Click the ‘edit source’ button and you get a window that will look a bit like this:

- Change all the URLs in the ‘Fetch feed’ box on the left to match the ones on your list, deleting any extra unused boxes
- Clicking the highlighted orange box will allow you to test your output in the ‘debugging window’.
- Save your Pipe and test it.
- If it’s all working, put your new Life Feed on your blog somewhere (err - a bit like this post)
Here’s mine (I took it one stage further by running it through FeedBurner).
No but seriously.
In a few days this post will actually make sense - I’m using this as a way of collecting together a bunch of collaborative publishing with five other people for a very exciting project.
More on this soon! In the mean time, I’m hoping this might be of use to someone?

Wouldn’t Feedblendr have been simpler?

Thanks Bob - hadn’t heard of that but it looks good. I chose Pipes so I could do other interesting stuff with it once I have other feeds going on… more on that in another post.
And from Paul Bradshaw I find xFruits.
